My goal was to create a podcast set that fully engaged host and speaker; to create an environment where they feel comfortable, relaxed and open to sharing. Although podcasts are an audio platform, recording the set during the conversations is a chance for a brand to create additional content. It was important to smul to have a considered backdrop for this reason. Decor balances the frame and adds a feeling of intimacy to the content, however styling is about more than just the furniture and finishings.

When you are present in your life, life feels fuller and more meaningful. How do we trick ourselves into the present moment? Consider activating all your senses like I did for the podcast set design.

• Visual - Warm colour tones and aesthetic design immediately let them know they’re in a welcoming space.

• Touch - All the furniture and decor has a texture to it and can make the host and speaker aware of this sense. i.e. ribbed drinking glasses, boucle material chairs.

• Smell - Lighting a candle prior to arrival, or having a room diffuser will soothe the host and speaker and bring them to the present moment.

• Taste - Fresh water, healthy smul snacks and any other refreshments can activate the tastebuds.

• Sound - Although we need a quiet room for the podcast, guests can arrive to music i.e. Upbeat music for exercise discussions, binaural music for mental health themes.
